Good timing

The second trial of strength between VergSec and the Marines, the "escape" of the prisoners, has ended in a stalemate. Marines hold the CiC, Vergis the middle and the rear. VergSec “Sergeant“ Feher has been standing at gunpoint in front of Gunnery Sergeant Cassidy, negotiating a truce and a demilitarized zone. Sergeant Major Anne have defected, being billed a traitor and with a "kill on sight" order given. It becomes apparent that the order is rather out of date and misinformed, and some talks to put things in perspective are needed. But the grudge on Cassidy's part is highly personal, and he's blatantly honest about his intention of not giving his superiors the chance to revoke that order.

When negotiations are done, Feher heads back to Vergis and his Almassy, to have the truce confirmed. Problem is, at this stage, his loyalty to Vergis have two new competing loves. One is She, the Celestra, speaking to him, singing to him. To be there, right there at the FTL-drive when She jumps, is pure bliss. The other is Sergeant Major Anne, a soulmate, having awakened the last remnants of humanity in him. She’s promised to kill him at first opportunity, since he betrayed her.

So finding his boss, he calmly explains the situation, the conditions of the truce and that he, Feher, is still a prisoner. He must return to Cassidy to get his brother in arms Adàm released from captivity, and the truce to enter into force. A few paces behind him Anne is standing. Feher tries to ignore her and look relaxed, pushing any thought of her to the side, but her presence is filling the room. He needs to tell her about Cassidy, about the order and the need to discuss it with some Galactica officer. This will be the first good excuse he's had to talk to her, since he put a gun to her head. The anguish in his heart is killing him. But Almassy starts asking questions about the details of the deal, and Feher is getting annoyed since this is routine, Almassy's meddling in security matters is unnecessary, the confirmation just a formality. All the time Feher is painfully aware that Anne is standing right behind him.

Finally Almassy is satisfied. Feher can turn to her. Those are the three longest steps in his life. She looks at him.

The PA-system crackles and comes alive:
- Prepare for FTL-jump.

  1. The suspense is killing me....

  2. There is no continuation, really. Being drawn to the FTL engine, he blurted something like "solve the issue with Cassidy" and rushed away to the engine room. No chance to talk that time

  3. Darn, we need input from Cassidy and Major Anne.

  4. I do know how the story ended, but that scene I wanted to tell about was over. The long story is pretty touching as well, a love story at gunpoint, no speeches, glances across the room, small words of comfort. Two people too scared, too emotionally ruined by war. Finally holding hands.
Cassidy wasn't very well liked by some, let's just say that all marine casualties came from the marines killing each other. Anne ended up being a consultant for VergSec and loyal to Polos.
